FAQ
Who will I meet?
One of our team will meet you at the agreed time and place (Balázs, Miklós, Ádám, Emese, Barna, Zoltán, Marci or Magda). The Fungarian Team is formed of eight teachers with qualifications in tour guiding. All of us also have their our special areas of interest like history, arts or linguistics. Most of us are multilingual including English, German, French, Spanish and Russian. We have an agreed company policy but apart from that all our members are encouraged to feel free to give their own personal input on tours; in other words, you won’t be listening to a generic memorised script!
Where is the meeting point?
If you enrol for a language class, our regular meeting point is Kamara Café, a small, cosy place opposite the Great Synagogue, Dohány utca 1, right at the trolleybus stop. But if you’re worried about finding it or you’re staying in an area out of the town centre, we’re more than happy to pick you up at your accommodation.
The same applies for the walking tours. Normally, the pickup point is your hotel, and we’ll start the tour from there.
Will I be joining a group?
Definitely not. All our programs are strictly private, unless you ask to be mixed with other people.
Can I pay by credit card?
Unfortunately, not. We prefer to be paid in cash after the tour, either in HUF, EUR or USD. Paying by PayPal is also possible.
Our prices are in EURO for the sake of convenience since the exchange rate for HUF (Hungarian Forint) changes daily.
Is the itinerary fixed?
Not at all. We have a well-timed itinerary that includes all the major highlights of the tour. However, since our tours are strictly private, we can afford to be as flexible as possible.
In our pre-tour correspondence, we greatly appreciate any background information you can give us about your special interests and wishes. In this way we can tailor the tour to include any special requests you have. Offering a personal service is our main goal.
What’s more, if you decide to upgrade the tour before it ends, you are most welcome to do so. The advertised time frame is flexible. If you’re enjoying your time and decide you’d like to extend the tour, just let our colleague know. When we plan a tour, we make sure that our teammates are available for beyond the planned finishing time.
How much walking is included in your tours?
Apart from the language classes that take place at a café, all our tours involve some walking, and we also use Budapest’s very efficient and enjoyable public transport system to save time so that we can show you more. For certain tours (Full-day tour or Public Transport Tour) we provide the tickets, but in most cases you’ll need to buy them. We can help you to choose the best and cheapest option depending on the length of your stay in Budapest (single ticket, 24-hour or 3-day pass).
In special cases we can also arrange a car or taxi at your own cost.
Are the Fungarian reviews on Tripadvisor reliable?
Last year we had a sceptical customer who said he always looked at the worst reviews first and he thought that Fungarian’s reviews seemed to be too good to be true!
Actually, we are proud of the almost 300 reviews from our guests who were so kind as to take the time to comment on their experience. The advantage of being small is that we can afford to treat our guests in the most flexible and personal way. The disadvantage, however, is that we can’t afford expensive advertising, so every review is a gift for us.
